Sanchez catches a break

Gary Sanchez has had trouble catching balls , but he did catch a break.
The Yankees catcher had his suspension reduced from four games to three and will begin serving it today in Baltimore. Sanchez will miss the three-game series.
“In one way I feel good,” Sanchez said Monday, when he could work out with the team but had to leave the stadium when the game began. “On the other hand I don’t feel good because I won’t be able to help my team.”
Sanchez threw punches during an Aug. 24 brawl with the Tigers in Detroit.
Asked if he regretted anything, Sanchez said: “That’s something that happened. You can’t go back in time.”

The appeal decision stretched on, fortunately for Sanchez and the Yankees. He caught all four games — three Yankees wins — against the first-place Red Sox in a series that ended Sunday.
“All games are important,” Sanchez said. “That series with the Red Sox was highly important. I was glad to participate and help.”

Catcher Austin Romine was suspended for a pair of games and is also appealing, but no decision has been made on his two-game ban yet.

The appeal decisions came for the Tigers first, as Miguel Cabrera’s and Alex Wilson’s suspensions were reduced by one game. Detroit manager Brad Ausmus served a one-game ban.
The Yankees acquired journeyman Erik Kratz from Cleveland last week to serve as an emergency backup catcher.

Sanchez will begin serving a three-game suspension Monday for his role in a brawl between the Yankees and Tigers on Aug. 24, Sweeny Murti of Sports Radio 66 WFAN reports. (Mon Sep 4)

Spin: Sanchez was originally slapped with a four-game suspension, but it was appealed down to three games. He'll be eligible to return for the weekend series against the Rangers on Friday. In the meantime, Andrew Romine and Erik Kratz will share duties behind the dish.
