Injuries

Injuries happen.

The 15 day DL, the 30 day , the 60 day DL are common resting spots for wounded players.

But nowadays teams seem to use the 10 day DL as a place to rest players, take the edge off a veteran who is struggling.

But teams are abusing the DL and they know it, it has been made simpler with the 10 day DL. You can bring up a hot pitcher and save a start or two for an aged vet.

Ten days is over so quick, you do not even have to send the "injured player " down for a rehab assignment.

The "fire sale " aspect of any team has to be taken into consideration, of course, but the Jays are dusting off the "sell now" plan in preparation for a summer sale of key assets.

Donaldson, Estrada, Tulowitski, even Russ Martin could be available for younger players.
Blow everything up, like the Yankees did in  2016, and come close to the same result.

I don't think the Jays have the farm system is rich enough on it's own.  The richest farm system in the majors a few years ago has been stripped bare.

But injuries take their toll, they decimate a rich farm system,
